The Michigan Ebt Eligible Food Items List outlined below has been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This is because the Food Stamp/SNAP program is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
- Grocery Food Items – With your Michigan Ebt card, you are allowed to buy regular food items, including bread, fresh or packaged fruits and vegetables, fish, poultry, meats, juices, cereals, snack items, soda pop, nuts and dairy products.
- Seeds and Plants – According to USDA, seeds, and plants which produce food for the household to eat are also included in the Michigan Ebt Eligible Food Items List. There are
- Sweets and Bakery Items – USDA also allows cookies, cakes, pies, donuts, bread and other bakery items to be purchased with food stamp.
- Energy Drinks – Currently, the only energy drinks that have a nutrition facts label are eligible to be purchased with Ebt card. According to the USDA, any energy drinks with a supplement facts label are classified as supplements by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Therefore they are not eligible in the food stamp purchase list.
- Packaged Sandwiches and Deli Foods – The only packaged sandwiches and deli foods that are cold, and also that will be eaten at home, can be purchased with food stamps at a deli, grocery or convenience store. Packaged sandwiches and deli foods include chicken, salads, sliced deli meat and regular sandwiches.
Some convenience stores that accept food EBT cards will display a graphic or picture of EBT card on the storefront or at the cash register.
