Georgia Food Stamps Online Application Guide

Today’s post will focus on Georgia Food Stamps Online Application process. Georgia residents can apply for Georgia food stamps program, which is also called the SNAP program. This program is a federally funded program that provides nutrition assistance to low-income households.

Furthermore, It’s the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, which is part of the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) that administers the SNAP program. Currently, there are two ways through which you can apply for SNAP Benefits/Food Stamps in Georgia.

Online Application

Georgia allows online applications by visiting the Georgia GATEWAY website. Once you visit the website, you will be required to create an account in order to apply for Food Stamps online. Also, during the process, you may return later to check the status of your application.

Furthermore, through the GATEWAY website, you can also check your eligibility for other Department of Human Services programs by using the Pre-screening Tool on the website. Also, you can report to the DHS, if any changes in your household circumstances and to renew your benefits online.

Walk-In/Mail Application

You can apply for SNAP Food Stamps in Georgia by downloading the application form and fill it up, then return it to the local County Department of Family and Children Services. The application form can be downloaded at www.dfcs.dhr.georgia.gov/foodstamps then mailed to your local County Department of Family and Children Service office.

Once you complete and submit your application, you will be invited for an interview by a staff from the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS). Also, you must bring the following documentation with you, as you will be required to provide proof of identity and certain documents to support the information you provided during your application.

Required Document

  • Proof of identity e.g. driver’s license, alien status
  • Social Security numbers for all household members
  • Proof of income
  • Current bank statements
  • Proof of dependent care expenses
  • Proof of medical expenses not paid by another source
  • Utility Bills
  • Proof of obligation and payment

Once you are approved, you will be issued an EBT Card or Food Stamps Card which your benefits will be deposited each month. However, you must use your Georgia Food Stamps benefits to buy the eligible food items approved by USDA.
